If it Dosen't have the disease, it can't give it to you.
Only Husks (Orange divers with tentacles sticking out of their helmets), Human husks (Humans with what appears to be a spike coming out of their mouth) Or Husk crawlers (Crawlers with a similar effect as the Diver husks)
And even then, certain items reduce the chance of getting it.
IIRC they include Broad-spectrum antibiotics, but I am not sure.
I think it's a bug (or crustacean, lol) in how your chance of catching it is calculated once you're past 100% husk resistance, but I've had instances where despite wearing the PUCS suit and taking antibiotics, I still caught it. But to OP, don't worry about catching it too much. The game gives you the scary notifications (or you can see it on a Health Scanner HUD on another character) when you catch husk, but you'll still have plenty of time to run/swim like hell treat it. Just remember to keep a decent stock of Antibiotics and Calyxanide on hand in case you get a breakthrough infection. Antibiotics cure 30% husk infection with successful treatment and Calyxanide cures 100% husk infection with successful treatment. For best use of resources, dose yourself with antibiotics you have on hand immediately after a husk fight is over if you've been bitten. If you are ever unsure if you have it or not, either have a player or bot with a Health Scanner HUD tell you or just use Calyxanide since that'd stop even a 100% infection.
Brave "volunteer" NPCs I've used for husk infection experiments have taught me that even if you get bitten up a lot, husk infection still ticks up at the same rate and doesn't reach 100% until 3 minutes which is indicated by you're stunned, unconsious, and convulsing on the ground. Once you reach 100% infection, your internal damage rates will climb at a rate relative to the number of bites you've sustained. Don't panic, even if you reach 100% husk infection, you still have at most two minutes time (Assuming one bite) for another character to treat it with Calyxanide before you turn. Once you hit 200% internal damage though, well, shoot until the health bar disappears, not just till empty.
I have some unfortunate news: once you start convulsing it's already too late. Anyone who tries to treat you with calyxanide will simply kill you faster.
