Is there/can there be a mod to remove clowns from the game?
I don't get why this otherwise super immersive game has a clown fixation and at this point I'm too afraid to ask. The biggest offender is dedicating an entire (absurdely OP) skill tree to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clowns and littering subs with clown stuff forcing this "content" up your nose. Is this some sick inside joke the devs think is good for their game?

Assuming the devs are trolls and this "feature" will stay tarnishing this game forever, is there something in the works in the mod community to erase all or most clown stuff from the game? could the clown talent tree be reworked into something less pathetic and more akin to actual game design?

Sorry if this is a taboo subject, usually I only come to forums when there's some absurd thing going on in a game I want to like.

I like to think that the clowns are just people who couldnt deal with Europa life and needed something to cope with

mod replaces clown faction
This seems to replace clowns with a bunch of buff men who appear to, ummm, have a thing for leather. Not necessarily better or more realistic

At that point you're asking for a whole skill tree remplacement, i don't think anyone is going to do it.

yeah it's... odd to say the least.
It's supposed to be a nod to the gameified autism that is SS13. But they do look out of place and stick out like a sore thumb in a game that's otherwise very serious and takes itself very seriously.

Clowns are indeed a bit out of place in the overall world. It dosent really bother me tho, esp since I don't play with randoms. If you boil it down.. this game seems to attract two kinds of players. The ones like me who read the game description and get hard as diamonds thinking about operating a sub in europas ocean, collecting resources and shooting at eldritch abominations.

The other side is quite litteraly chaotic trolls which comes in various sub catagories. I tottaly get the amusement this can generate and how the game can be played in a few different ways. The clown side is simply not for me. Play with the right people and suddenly its a non-issue.

I agree. And I, too, am fine with clowns and welcome them to my game. People who come to me in the role of a clown, run, make noise and ♥♥♥♥ - then they swim naked and dead in ballasts. So they don't bother me at all! (^_^)

Hi,

The question was answered already: there is no mod that currently do this. I'm assuming it would be possible to make one ( you could replace the clown-related files by other, more "serious" things, I guess ).

Barotrauma never hid the fact that the clowns are a tribute to Space Station 13. I think we can agree that Barotrauma wouldn't exist without SS13. SS13 brought this genre of "often chaotic multiplayer management game" to light, after all.

The whole cult surrounding the Honkmother is a bit of a hint to this fact. If clowns were part of SS13 and Barotrauma exists thanks to SS13, then the Honkmother and her clowns are symbols or avatars of life and creation. And also chaos... Which seems to be the seeds of life around our universe. :captainclown:

The clowns are part of the vanilla game, just like Solid Snake can hide in a cardboard box, just like your character in Dark Souls can fight eldritch beasts with a giant fork and fall flat like an idiot after charging. Kazuma Kiryu can destroy a bunch of thugs by throwing a motorcycle at them, crushing their skulls with it one by one and five minutes later emotionally sing "Bakamitai" at the karaoke bar nearby. It is what it is.

I believe we've come quite full circle here. As I said, OP has the answer(s) to the question asked. The thread has been going a bit out of control since then. The questions and answers are kinda leaving way to arguments as of late, which are prone to violate forum guidelines. We'll give it a chance to redeem itself for now. Please don't make me regret it! :captainsmooth:

This answer has no merit though. As someone stated before this whole thing is forced on us and literally breaks immersion and just promotes trolling. If it was something as simple as paying homage to the game that came before with references or a wink here and there then that would be accurate. And then you instead of just a simple answer you mock him with your "serious" comment instead and then go on your random clowns are about life and creation bit? Your just being a ♥♥♥♥ and feeding the other trolls on here.

I guess I could say that in Metal Gear there is a recurrent character who has constant digestive issues. It's a character that is very important to the story - some kind of Deus Ex Machina thing, he often helps Snake and other characters when a situation seems desperate. This character can't be removed and is part of the main story throughout the series and even figures in key cutscenes. This character is even "reproduced" since we see his son ( and grandson if my memory is correct ) and the youngest ends up with the romantic interest of Solid Snake in Metal Gear Solid 4. It's meant as a comic relief in an otherwise very serious situation and, let's be honest, is not very immersive to say the least.

It depends on how you see it. Maybe the cardboard box is optional, just like the other odd things found in Metal Gear... But I dare you to find one person on this planet who hasn't picked up and used a single funny item in that franchise. There's just too many to avoid. That's what I meant. There are things in games that may not "fit" according to the main product, but they're still there.

As for your accusations that I'm mocking someone with a serious comment, I reject them. I've always been considerate and respectful of others here. If OP thought my comment was disrespectful in any way, I can sincerely say that it wasn't my intention and I even apologize if it came off as rude or something like this. On the contrary, I wrote a pretty big message in order to show respect to someone's opinion that is different to mine.

I don't think there have been much "trolls" since I posted here ( unless you count that peculiar mod as a troll move - I don't, I think it was a lighthearted joke, and I feel safe in saying the other moderators thought the same ). We had no user reports from anyone ever since concerning this thread, no reply has been flagged.

I believe the later part of your reply was unnecessary and rude, and is not contributing to anything. Let's leave it at that.

I believe it's alright to voice your opinion, even when you disagree with me, but it has to be done with to the very least some minimal respect. Please remember this next time you write to me or anyone else on this board.

There is a mod, it's called 'Different Game'. To enable it go to your Steam library, click on any game that takes your fancy that ISN'T Barotrauma, then launch the game. Now you should have a game without clowns... unless you launched SS13 or Sim Clown.

I made a simple mod that essentially kill clowns with Clown Power in a timely manner.

Is this a bad time to let y’all know there’s canonically a character named Susy Susman, whose cause of death was being no longer amogus? Barotruama really doesn’t take itself as seriously as you may think.
Similar to Fallout, it’s a mostly serious world absolutely filled with absurdities.

The clown is in the game because this game is inspired by space station 13. The clown honking sound effect is the same in space station 13 as it is in barotrauma. Anyone who has played space station 13 knows how much pranking and jesting the clowns in that game could do.

When's the last time you saw a clown in real life? I think I've seen 100 leather/BDSM fetishists for every clown I've seen in real life.

nlg I kinda agree with you to some extent

Friend begged me every day for months to get this game, first 4 hours playing with him all he did was spam clown stuff (Drugging me, blowing up reactors, constantly killing ai crew-mates, etc) as I was learning the game, didn't even know the basic controls apart from wasd. It killed my excitement for it and I never really got back into it due to it.

Clowns are great in multiplayer but when runs get killed every few minutes "just because clown" it gets very tedious and boring
