Is there anyway to Change the Single Player starting jobs?

I have two questions for single player,

One: Is it possible to change the starting jobs in any way (mods included) that you know of? Can I start with a security officer instead of a mechanic, or three assistants?

Two: On the topic of assistants, is it even possible to utilize their 'graduation' skill in single player at all? As far as I was told if you let a character die in single player thats it: they are gone.

As far as I know you are correct about Assistants - once they're dead that's it, they don't get to respawn in single player.
