As for the best sub overall, it’s up to preference and also dependent on crew size. The only definitive thing I’d say is to avoid the Typhoon 2 like the plague.
i was looking at it, and the fact it has no botom guns was turning me off.
The Humpback ended up being favoured by one of my friends but I hated it due to a personal reason, the yellow lighting throughout the sub was not suited to my visual palette. At least I think it was the Humpback anyway.
One of the Typhons, not sure which one, was incredibly enjoyable when we managed to get a five man crew together. It had a lot of little nooks for us all to inhabit, but man was it not very fun to get off the ground at the start lol. It also has a bit of an annoying layout and Cargo location, if I recall.
Dugong I wouldn't consider suitable for a full campaign though, since it lacks constructors I believe. Outposts become very thin as you go deeper, so you'll want a sub that has a full suite of constructors and preferably a good amount of storage space as well.
I guess if I had to pick a submarine it'd be either the Humpback, Remora or the Typhon though. Good space, good weapon coverage, and they all have a railgun. Haven't personally used the Remora though, but having looked it over just now, I want to next time I play lol.

I guess just have a little look-see at these and decide what one appeals to you the most, maybe. Open them in the sub editor and check how they look in lighting mode if you're as fussy as me when it comes to perfect illumination on the eyes too, maybe.
Far as I know, the third area takes you beyond 3500m which is beyond crush depth if you've not purchased any Hull upgrades. I don't know for sure what Deep Diver does, but I know it has bonus Hull strength, which allows it to possibly go beyond 3500m crush depth without Hull upgrades or something...but Hull upgrades are so cheap that I usually max them out as one of the first things I do anyway.
I think I saw someone talking about the ending having two outcomes depending on if you had a Deep Diver sub or not, but honestly I don't know for sure myself, I've never gotten beyond the third area thus far..
i was looking online and cant find anywhere that states if the class or just sub in general have varrying stats on this.
like is a dugong at max upgrades just as sturdy as typhons for example, where 1 was desgined for front line battle and the other not at all.
I don't know the exact health (I'm sure a data miner does) but I assume the numbers are something like every hull piece is at 100 HP by default, no matter the sub, and increase by 10 HP with every upgrade up to 200 HP. Deep Diver probably adds something like +25% hull strength hull would start with 125 HP and increase up to 250 HP.
That's just how I assume it'd work, I'm 100% sure the numbers are wrong or it doesn't work like that, for all I know overall hull integrity is based on the weight and size of the submarine in question, but I don't think it is - can't tell much difference between big subs and small subs in regards to how fast stuff claws through the hull (it's basically paper at 0/10 upgrades)
No clue how crush depth translates into hull strength though. Hopefully someone comes along who know what they're talking about lol. For all I know, Deep Diver might only effect crush depth resistance and not hull damage HP too.
But uh basically I think every submarine has identical hull strength no matter what if they're at the same hull strength upgrade level, with the same Deep Diver status being equal to each other as well.
I saw someone mention those classes - Deep Diver, Attack, Scout, Transport, Shuttle etc, are all planned to provide bonuses to submarines eventually, but currently only Deep Diver does. You can expect differences between submarines in the future, most likely. If you want to be a munchkin you'd always pick a "Deep Diver" class submarine right now I guess.
im thinking about the remora, but not sure yet, if the drone is worth it over the deep diver, that deep diver looks like a nightmare to run around with only the AI to help me.
You can use a screwdriver and "rewire" the lights to change their colour!
Remora makes up for not having a bottom gun by having a depth charge launcher tube. This allows you to deploy Decoys and Explosive charges which free you and delete most things in the game when combined.
I dident wanna end up being overwhelmed on a larger sub for now heh.
i think if i go with a larger sub, i will load it in the editor and move the various props around so its easier to manage with the AI crew, and be more quality of life on the main storages.
I will remember to have another look at that though, for sure. Sounds like it could be fun, plus a good way to irritate a friend or two
I don’t particularly like nor hate the typhon 2, just curious
As for the question at hand i personally am warming up to the humpback. Just slap her some upgrades and your golden
