How is the community/any good, serious servers?
im thinking of buying barotrauma but my main concern is that every server is just filled with griefers and people who's mental capacity involve blowing the ship up 10,000 times and always finding it fun.

About 20 percent of the community are griefers and they can easily ruin a mission. But the good thing is you can find good players in public servers and then add them to your friends list for some private games.

A minority of people are griefers, like 1 in 6. But since the game takes at least 3-4 people playing, you're likely to get that 1 moron every few missions who will set people back. So even if only a fraction of the community does it, you're still very likely to experience it because the game simply takes a lot of people to work.

The negative impression you then end up taking with you after you surf across player lobbies is that everyone is griefing. It's not the case though.

You can and should find servers with moderators on that know what they are doing. They can undo damage and remove the crap stains when it happens.

I would say it's all about finding a good server/lobby. It might require a little searching, but once you find that one group you click with it's a fantastic time.

Yes, if you have admins checking the real time server logs, they can ban the griefers on the spot.

Oh, and one more thing, if you get tired of trying to find a decent server hosting one yourself is easy.

... and the griefers will flock to you.... Good plan!

Hosting is far more difficult than joining, I would say, but if you find good friends to play with as others have said then it's a great experience. There is of course the single player campaign, character and sub editors too, so plenty to appeal to all sorts, if you enjoy building but not playing then there's that option.

You may find that griefers join at certain times of the day, typically shortly after the 10 year olds get out of school and have finished watching their cartoons.

I mean, hosting a server REALLY isn't that hard, and removing griefers isn't rocket science. As a server host you have access to logs, and that is enough to deal with 99% of griefers. I've yet to see a griefer that can't be found out in minutes with a combination of the server logs and asking questions. If something goes wrong, check logs to found out who exactly did what. Ask people what they think happened, then fact check that with logs. If someone is lying to you, ask why. If they don't give a reasonable answer, then they're most likely the guilty party.

You should find a server with karma and anti-griefing rules
