reputation and stealing

can you improve relationship with the husks and clowns? and if I steal from a trashcan is it still stealing? Also, do stations shops resupply?

I do not know about the other two, but taking things from a trash can definitely counts still as stealing. Like in real life (might depend by country laws).

yes you can improve your rep with both the clowns and the church. I am not sure why you would want to as rep for them doen't seem to do anything but there are station events linked to them.

thanks for the input guys! Also, is stealing LOS based? or do NPC's just know you took something? and do station shops resupply?

Someone has to see you. If nobody is around, steal as much as you like. Handy in the early game since when you travel to another dock the items will no longer be marked as stolen, so you can sell them for profit. ;)

From what I know, it's LOS, plus they see what you wear or hold in hands.
Don't wear stolen diving suits or be prepared to be hit by security.
Not like rep is a problem though.
Station shops do resupply, but only after several other visited station. Sometimes moving to some other node and back is enough, sometimes it takes 2-3 nodes visited and back.
