Deconstructing Noob Help Thanks
Pretty new to barotrauma, recently got back into it but even when I played in the past I didn't have many hours. Never did crafting until now.

Anyways I'm playing single player to learn and I'm having issues with crafting the most basic components. I got my level 41 mechanical engineer to do the deconstructing (is that right? use your crew member with highest mechanical engineering level to deconstruct and craft? unless if its a medical item then use your medic?).

I deconstructed a few of each (like 3 to 5 items each) of scrap, sea yeast, poppy, elastin plant and fiber plant, and got absolutely nothing in the output of the deconstructor. If the barotrauma wiki is up to date, I don't think any of those items are supposed to have percent chances to deconstruct.

Can anybody advise / give me a link to some up to date info?

Many thanks

So it spits you stuff into them, occasionally onto the floor too.

The fabricator might also be linked to the storage locker allowing you to fabricate items without having to put the items into the fabricator yourself. Its a very useful feature.

Deconstruction requires no skills, and it's time is not dependent on skills. Just put in items and click the button.

If 5 output slots are empty, then you should have gotten decon materials once deconstruction completed. Make sure you have no bots nearby (they shouldn't be able to pick those items, but still). If items can't be placed in slots, they will fall to the floor.
You also may put in a container in one of those slots, then deconstructor will try to put in resulting items inside the container.

Thats so weird!
I'm playing on a custom sub where the creator had to shrink down the fabricator and deconstructer (small sub) I wonder if that might produce some kind of bug. Definitely got nothing out of those materials though :/

Thanks for the help!

Heh sounds like bad sub :) It's better to either make space for fab/decon at cost of other facilities, or don't install them at all, otherwise its too cheap

Ya I was a dummy, I haven't checked yet but I bet ya it is a linked storage locker, I forgot that those were a thing! Thanks folks :)

Huh forgot about such possibility. No vanilla sub uses it
