Bots don't really like to fix holes if there are multiple of them: noticed that there were two who were repairing holes in the top of the ship, while a few were in the bottom of it, walking right near hull holes but instead of fixing them they were just standing there (yes they had welding tools and even had them equipped).
Also it seems that bots also can't repair certain holes, like entrance door on Dugong, area to top right on the captain's deck on Typhon 2 and diving exit area on Remora.
I haven't seen any of what you describe bar the medic, to which i say control a coilgun till i take over them to heal major injuries.
The captain will circle around a spot if an ice spire is in the way until you destroy it.
They are predictable and if you try to treat them like human controlled players you will be disappointed.
If your experiencing a lot of that, its most likely a waypoint issue on a custom sub. I.e creator didn't add any at all.
