Stupid question about the Abyss

Hey all, sorry for this stupid question (specially coming from someone with 200hrs in the game). But...
How in the un-holy name of Aquaman´s mom, do you actually enter the abyss?

I used to think that the abyss was the rightmost part of the MAP, in other words, a biome that i reached when the subs goes all the way from the left to the right of the map. Aphotic Plateau->Great Void->Hydrothermal wastes->The Abyss. (in single player, ibe never made it past Hydrothermal wastes).

But I read that is is accessable from every biome, even cold caverns, "on the bottom". But does it mean "on the bottom" of the MAP screen? in other words, do i need to travel to the botom (not to the right) of the MAP?
OR
Does in mean in the bottom of actual LEVELS. Like actual "holes" / caves i can steer the sub into? Because i have only seen flat ground.

Bottom of the map screen is actually at the right, which is where you are heading

Yes of course. But is the Abyss there?

There are now areas in the map where you can sink lower than the floor by going through gaps. If you don't have the upgrades I think you can potentially get crushed. Once you get to a biome with hunting grounds the boss monster will be located near one of these gaps. I'm pretty sure the gap and abyss area is in all biomes, but hunting grounds and boss monsters don't appear till later.

So to access the Abyss, i would do it during a Level (sub running, NOT docked). Correct?

I wish the devs would bring back the map the game had before, the circular one. It made a TON more sense and was more intuitive imho.

Incorrect. You can do both, not "one but not other"

the abyss is the area in the bottom section of a map which isn't full of terrain and caves. There will be a few islands of minerals there, and some areas (not sure which) have a big mountain/volcano in the abyss
