Difference Between Old (Coil/Rail) And New (Chain/Plasma) Weapons?
What is the distinct/functional difference between the Coil Gun and Rail Gun, and the new Chain Gun, and Plasma Cannon?
Are the two new guns straight upgrades, are they different and serve different purposes? Is there some other thing I'm not seeing?

As a second point, if I want weapons on my sub to be changeable, do I have to use the Loader Base, and Turret Hardpoint?

Railgun[barotraumagame.com] is lowest RoF, but high damage. The coilgun[barotraumagame.com] has most shots per ammo-crate (200/150). Both have options for piercing targets, and for explosions.

Haven't tried the new weapons myself yet, but the chaingun[barotraumagame.com] has higher damage per shot than coilgun. 149 shots per crate. No option for explosions, not sure about piercing. Supposedly turns slowly while firing.

Pulse-laser[barotraumagame.com] is higher damage still. Also different damage type, and even fewer shots (44/28). If I'm not mistaken has AoE.

The pulse-laser has an ammotype that can split the laser into 3. it sounds like lasers are a short-ranged devastator, and chainguns are for chewing up large groups of monsters by winding up to fire faster.

nah the pulse laser is very good. 1 shots crawlers and 2 shots mudraptors. you can just about 6 shot a golden hammer head
