is there any reason to use normal coil gun ammo when you can use piercing?
like worst casinerio you break even but the average enemy goes down faster thus less ammo spent which will either take up less cost to round spent or do what normal ammo dose in half the time

its not that more costly but you need less of it, and its not hard to craft

Maybe at very beginning, where you have dugong and lack of money to get much. Then, piercing ammo is a bit too scarce. But this doesn't last long.

They are saying to nerf piercing ammo. Still, it prob will be strictly better version of normal, and explosive will still be the arguably top tier.
I would increase coilgun firerate with normal/physicorum ammo to give them some use vs hard to hot unarmored targets, as well as to bring their DPS closer.

coilgun ammo box - aluminium
- steel bar (consume)
total consume = 1 iron + 1 carbon for 200 shots

piercing ammo box - aluminium
- Titanium-Aluminium Alloy (consume)
- steel bar (consume)
total consume = 1 titanium + 1 aluminium + 1 iron + 1 carbon for 150 shots

you basically sacrifice 50 shots to get a pierce 3 in a line and consume more resources. if you do not have titanium what are you gonna do? titanium is a rare and is not found that easily. Station can only provide you this much.

think it over all dose more damage especially against armored/shelled monsters so its effectively more them 150 shots compaired to normal ammo

You are forgetting that "pierce 3 in line" may hit same target multiple times. Considering base damage of 15, you easily deal 30 or 45 per hit.
Additionally, if target is armored, piercing deals with it as well. Yes you can unload straight into armored shell if Moloch and still kill him pretty fast. Which is waaay more than "next to nothing" you get from trying to do the same with normal ammo.

M-249 5.56x45 mm from Madness Project Nexus comes to mind, with it's quote

While piercing ammo is strong for an entirely different reason, principle still holds: it doesn't really matter how hard it is to get another crate of piercing ammo if you will kill any foes before they will make you deplete what you have. You simply consume that much less than you can gain, even just from rare lategame outposts

yes, it ONLY effective for killing shelled monsters and it is a waste of resources to shoot them at unprotected creatures, Spineling, clawers, mudraptors that come in group but they scatter around and do not let you 1 for 3 most of the time. and you are probably wasting all your shot missing this small and fast target. Don't forget you are now shoting MORE resource out per shot.

Well currently when you do hit them with normal ammo, you often deal negligible damage compared to piercing. Forcing to shoot more and more.
Perhaps if normal ammo had higher firerate and maybe extra stopping power (ministun), then hitting them would be easier, this giving it some use.

not to mention, the time i can stockpile 100 steel bars, how many can you find those 100 extra titanium, aluminium for if you are crafting, yes you can buy from station and 100 steel bars is far way less expenses than that titanium alloy. regular ammo is ideal for dealing small and fast critters, piercing and explosive is for stronger and specialize purpose.

Mentioning cost is actually ridiculous in current economy. Can easily buy out everything that contains titanium from all outposts you pass by

to someone who is just new to the game, the whole conomy doesnt make any sense. i ended up without any power, although all shop UIs told me i got 7 radioactive burning elements.
all this needs a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of finetuning and Ui clarification. so that depleted uranium elements are a different item than 100% uranium elements.

That's not as much of economy problem as it is drawback of having no access to deconstructor.
Next time, just buy all fuel rods shop has
