Is this a bug? Hatch can't be repaired.
My first game.
My first ship.
20 minutes into game.

My exit hatch gets ripped off. Water rushes in (contained).
I go out to repair it. The hatch door tells me (in highlight) to 'Use a crowbar'; to rip-off the damaged hatch door. But.... there is no hatch door at all! I can literally swim right through it. The door it gone.

I try to use my crowbar tool anyway. I press "E"; over and over and over and over again; on the highlighted area. On the missing hatch door. Nothing happens.

If an object does not need fixing; I notice that the repair option is never highlighted.
In this case; the hatch door IS highlighted for 'crowbar' tool repair.

I have tried everything. It will not repair with the crowbar. Pressing E right next to it. Fail.
I tried welding it??? Tried that too. Nothing.

I tried screwdriver and wrench also (even though nothing was highlighted); and that also didnt work.

Is this a bug? The hatch door can not be repaired?

If you're using a "mod" ship, sorry, can't help you.

If it's a default ship, you need to see your character "holding a wrench on his hand", then press "E" on it, having a wrench in your inventory without equipping it won't do the job.

Sometime the "Mechanical Fix" only shows up after you press "E" multiple times.

Btw, you should also stop listening to the "in-game tutorials".

I am using the default Scout ship. Yes.

I was holding the wrench in hand. I tried many many times the 'E' button; at different angles. No good.

I will try this again later; with the welding tool.
I did try before; but it was rather brief. Maybe I was not aiming the gun properly the first time or something. Worth another shot.

But yes; the Crowbar and E button, does not seem to work. Even though the notification is telling me the repair needs to be done with the crowbar first.

That happend to me one time. The game asks you to use a welding tool like a wrench to repair your hatch. Not by welding it proprely, really like a wrench.

I know this isn't really helpful, but I'm just going to +1 and say that this has happened to me a couple of times on a Dugong. It's like the middle door in the airlock. If that gets damaged, I'll still see the cogwheel icon over it (indicating that it needs repair), but I can't interact with it in any way if I get close to it with a screwdriver/wrench equipped.

I'll have to try the "use a welding tool like a wrench" idea next time it happens. I never thought about that.

My solution so far has just been to just live with one broken door for the rest of the round (being careful when I need to move around through the airlock) then use the "repair everything" button that the sub upgrade NPC has the next time I get to an outpost.

I think I learned about the "welder needed to fix broken hatches" thing after like 800 hours in game. I Spent a bunch of time yelling at the server host while we were at port that there was an airlock hatch that couldn't be repaired and they needed to pay to repair all item, only to learn it needed a welder... I felt very silly after. :steamfacepalm: It's super unintuitive!

I'm pretty sure it was just a matter of "welding" the hatch as if it were a broken wall piece that fixed it in the end.

Bah! Frustrating.

If I understand correctly, the E option with crowbar is solely for forcing a door or hatch open and will always highlight when you have crowbar equipped, regardless of whether it needs ripping or not.

Fixing this probably required a welder and then the E key for repair at which point I think the damage bar would appear at the bottom with repair option.

Hm. Worth a second evaluation. For the next time I log in. Thanks.
