What's the purpose of the event where you find an ID card on an abandoned outpost?

I haven't come across such an event, however that ID card possibly opens a secure locker or location on the station.

There's always an event on an abandoned outpost full of crawlers. First door to the bottom right of outpost entrance there would be a container marked with an event symbol and upon interacting with it your character will say that the ID card inside it has a familiar to them name on it. I don't recall if the card can be used to open anything, but last time I found one it did could _not_ open outpost's safe.
