So like a fair chunk of people I have questions regarding the pets. I know how to feed them (somewhat...probably just need to leave a plant alone for a bit to avoid wasting medical supplies) and give them a name. However, I know very little besides that. I will be listing a few questions regarding my current experience (note I got myself an "Orange Boy" so people may have different pet personalities if that is a thing).

First things first, how can I tell the status of my pet? The little speech bubble thing is not really that informative and it's clearly not a dog. Is it hungry? Angry? Scarred? I have no clue what's going through its head. The medic HUD also is not useful, just tells me if it's alive.

Second, do pets not like name tags? I bought a name tag for my pet and the entire trip it was biting people. Next time I'm in port, the tag is gone. I have two guesses here, either the tag is buggy or my pet HATES it so much it lashes out until the name tag is destroyed. I can get behind annoying clothing but a name tag/collar? What's wrong with that?

Third, is there anything else you can do with a pet besides pet and feed it planned in the future? Granted, you would have more important things to do but maybe a pen would help make your critter feel like a part of the crew. If you're going through the hassle to have a pet on board your iron coffin might as well give it comfort.

If anyone has answers or more questions, leave them below.

So far the only speech bubbles I've seen the pet show is the little hamburger which means they are hungry, or the heart which means they have enough food and have been played with enough. If you don't see a speech bubble at all it probably means they have eaten but not had enough pats yet.

I haven't tried playing around with the name-tag yet, so I don't know if this is supposed to be the case or what is going on with that. But I'll try and do some experimenting. My guess is it is probably a bit bugged right now.

Currently when the pets are happy they will "poop" out resources, sometimes they will just poop out poop. Each pet seems to drop a different kind of resource, so far I've only found one you can use for crafting (chitin) which I believe comes from the orange boy. The others seem to be good for deconstructing into some rarer materials. The poop can be deconstructed for carbon. My guess is they will continue to expand on this and have the pets act as a sort of resource farm that can be maintained on the ship.

Old topic i know, but i also have a "Pet problem". Mine was behaving fine, even with its name tag, then a couple of missions later, it just wont stop biting the balls of 2 of my security guards! It only seems to attack those 2 people, ibe never seen it attack other bots or me (unless i switch to play as one of those 2 guards).
Its well fed, happy, so why does it have such a hatred for those 2 guys? and more importantly, how do i make it stop!?
So far ibe solved it by dropping the damn thing on the ballast tank. But if i dont find a solution, im gonna drop that rabbid beast at the next station (or on the jaws of a hammerhead).

I guess it's still bugged in stable version of the game. In unstable it should be fixed. So probably in the next update it's good again.

Im sad to inform that "Winnie" (as my wife named it), as been left at a station, as he continued to provide unrequested basectomies to my security guards.

It was kinda fun having that little thing onboard. I do hope they fixed this on the unstable version. And also, that the next patch comes soon.
