So if I ran out of fuel on a station and they don't have fuel rods my save is lost?
I'm not actually in this situation but hear me out on this one. The dugong doesn't have a fabricator, but we can freely use the one located on the colony. Ok. We can pick our lead, iron and uranium and create those fuel rods for our next mission.

Now picture this: I just got back of a long mission, in need of more fuel rods for my next mission. The vendor doesn't have any fuel rods but I can buy the ingredients in order to make one, to assure that I will have enough fuel for my next trip... But the items only spawn after I leave the outpost. In that situation, what would happen? Would my save be lost forever? Could I just leave the city and dock at it again?

EDIT: And if the station doesn't have anything for me to make fuel, and my fuel is over?

Yes you can redock and return to the outpost..

You should constantly be going to different outposts. There's also wrecks you can get fuel rod from pretty often.

I've found a wreck full of paint and some gear like crowbar and plasma cutters, but no fuel rod, just a single uranium box :c

Can I "freeroam" to another outpost?

you can chose to go to other outpost and chose not pick any quests, not sure if it would be worth it but yea you can just go without quests
Can I simply go to another after I finish one quest? I've noticed that usually when I go out for hunting I only have 2 options in my nav computer, and only one of them is actually a outpost, so I was kinda wondering if there's a specific mission to go to a new one.

Every station has fuel rods

But they're finite. I've bought 3 available, went on a mission, then went back and there was still no rod at the shop. I'm guessing it takes a finite number of missions to reset the shop?

Your comment literally explained what happened to me, I’m desperate, I don’t have fuel and I’m in my first sub and I’m also at an outpost without a manufacturing machine, my god

A good strategy is to buy radiotoxin and deconstruct it to get 1 uranium and thorium each. You can use these to construct a new rod from rods you are done with.

they should restock them, aslo you should be able to get 2-3 rods for every 1 rod you use at a station from buying or crafting, they usually have 3 rod plus other fancy ones

Each outpost should have 3 uranium fuel rods, most (if not all) also sell a single thorium fuel rod. Thorium rod gives total of 250% energy compared to uranium, so buy it always when you see... in fact, buy all rods you see in the shop, and choose mission that lead to unexplored outposts so you can always enjoy full-stocked shop.

Later, after you get a submarine with fab/decon, it gets easier. You can get uranium (either find, or deconstruct fertilizer) and craft new fuel rods.

Sadly this is obsolete. Now all poison antidotes don't give their vorresponding poisons when deconstructed – only stabiliozine and, in case of calyxanide, antibiotics. Iirc only exception is naxolone, which does give morphine back

Nah. As far as I know, it's tied to what outpost you were at last. So if you buy all the fuel rods from 'x' station, they won't restock until you go to 'y' station.

But you should have missions to go to other stations pretty much all the time. You sure you're getting every mission that's available? The station head or whoever he is, usually gives out a couple delivery missions which means new station and new fuel.

At beginning of campaign, I went to other outpost, then took mission that led me back... to my surprise, shop didn't restock. Merely arriving at other outpost won't restock first.
Later, asking in discord revealed that, apparently it takes several "turns" to restock a shop. Which means going in circle over biome map may do it... didn't check myself tho

Huh. Was playing just last night and the first station restocked after I went to another station, did a mission at a natural formation, went back to the second station and then returned to the original. Not sure how exactly it restocks.

You really need to keep backup supplies to craft additional fuel rods or have an emergency stash of fuel rods hidden somewhere.

The fabricator link on the wiki should show you what you need to make more fuel. A lot of this stuff you can find on wrecks.

You really need to keep reading entire post before replying. Dugong does not have fabricator and it's clear OP won't have this problem on sub with fabricator
