Game uninstalled itself and I've lost a submarine I was making
Everything seemed to be working fine on Barotrauma yesterday but when I started my PC today, I noticed that the game was uninstalled, even though I hadn't done this myself. When I installed and started up the game, I was getting tip windows etc, as if it was my first time playing the game again. All the tutorials are back to being uncompleted, my installed workshop mods were disabled and the worst part is that any submarines I'd made but not published on the workshop aren't appearing in game or in the submarine editor. I can still find the sub files in the game directory but I have no way of accessing them in game. If anyone could help me figure out what has happened and how to get my subs back I would really appreciate it. I thought my file might have been corrupted or something but that doesn't explain why all the submarines are gone or why the game uninstalled itself

It sounds like you deleted the Barotrauma Steam folder somehow. :lunar2020thinkingtiger:

If you can find the .sub files of the ships you were working on that is good! It means they are not completely lost. Where did you find the files? You should be able to copy/paste them into Barotrauma's "Submarines" folder and that should make them available again in game. As to why this happened I have no idea, I have had similar happen to me before with other games (no modifying any files was playing it the day before and suddenly I have to reinstall it) but usually I can still find the game files and it ends up being an issue with steam updates or something weird like that.

I'm not sure how that would have happened, but I did have to reinstall the game so it must've I guess

I found them exactly where they should be strangely enough. They were still appearing in barotrauma/submarines, just weren't visible in the games menus. I'm pretty sure the same problem happened to me in the legacy version once before. Copy/pasting the files back into the folder didn't fix this however.

Is it possible that the reinstall put the new barotrauma game/files in a different directory? Could explain why the subs are still in the game files but not showing up in the game? Otherwise you can at least publish what you got there as a private thing on the workshop and then download and continue to work on it that way!

Yeah, I could give that a go. Also, would I actually be able to publish the file despite it not appearing in the game editor?
Edit: I've just found out what the issue is. I tried to add one of the files to the workshop as you suggested when I noticed that the version of Barotrauma I am currently playing is appearing under a different hard drive. The one I am on at the moment is installed on my SSD rather than my HDD, which explains why the submarines from the folder aren't appearing here (wrong directory obviously). I'll try copying the submarines over to the new folder on the SSD to make sure everything is alright with them. After I've backed up and finished the submarine, I'll just re-install the game in the correct location.

Ahhhhh yeah that's what it sounded like. Glad you were able to get the files back! I thought I had lost a sub I was working on once, terrible feeling!

Yes, it would just be a little bit janky. You would need to publish really anything at all in the list of things you could publish, then in the file area you would delete the file initially there and then select one of the sub files you want in the other directory.... Hopefully that made sense XD

That's actually how I managed to find out that the game was installed on the wrong storage device XD. Thanks again for the suggestion, probably wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't brought it up. The help has been very much appreciated :)
