Also curious. All games are better with a friend but is the experience possible / worth it solo?

Technically it's possible but it's very hard with a vanilla sub. For best results, you would need a sub designed for such a feat: very small, compact, very fast and well armed. In the editor you could reduce machine size so you can store everything next to another in one room, modify their properties ( so they never break or consume no power for example ) and implement other changes that would help a lone player. I've done missions alone with the Dugong and Orca but to be honest it involves constant multitasking which isn't fun in a long term perspective. Missions that would otherwise take 20 min can easily take 1 hour or more because the chances are you'll be overwhelmed with the tasks that pile up, example: you'll be fixing the ballast and meanwhile you'll get attacked, then your fuel rod empties itself, etc.

Solo as in just your own character, yes, but as said, custom sub needed.
Solo as in single player, yeah, there are bots, they are pretty stupid, but they do the job and you can take them over in sp.

Absolutely. I'm in the middle of a solo canpaign right now, actually. I'm in the Great Void. Once you learn how to deal with the AI, it's just a matter of surviving endless waves of threshers, raptors, etc

I made a shuttle with forward facing guns that activate via button push at the nav terminal. It's quite fun to dodge around enemies and get them in position to be shot and you don't need more than maybe 1 assistant or you could always just repair the small amount of components yourself.

I only got the game recently, But I would say yes, its doable. I've been playing solo since I got the game and while multiplayer is probably more fun, with bots, If you take it as it is the micromanaging can be fun in its own right. The bots are dumb and will kill themselves if they have O2 tanks on, but with some skill most shortcomings in the bots AI can be overcome with skill if you have the dedication to it. You just have to view the bots less as crew and more as little robots that can do basic tasks on their own, but require assistance and managing from the player. If not for the ability to take control of the bots directly though, It would be MUCH more annoying. Just make sure to give your own character orders so that if you switch to a bot your character will continue to work. you can also use the bots for information because they will tell you if they cant do something or if something is already done. :captainsinful:
Most people are not accustomed to doing it, but switching to the bots in rotations can go a long way to preventing or managing disasters. I've been successful with it thus far :bigjohn:

Just keep an eye on their O2 or they will die :barotrauma:

currently in the process of building my AI friendly boat for the solo enthusiast , most of the systems are in place but the look and hulll need further work for balance and asthetics ... most Ai issues with other boats ive ironed out with hours of tweaks.
