Also am i doing something wrong? I play alone with bots and i didn't run into the problems people are complaining about. The only real issue is the engi bot ducking up my reactor by stealing the 2nd rod when i need it, other than that i just keep them on guns untill something needs fixing. Keeping the sub tidy is a bit of an issue but that's something i can manage with a short pause on the nearest rock without the sonar attracting stuff.
Engineer runs the reactor and repairs junction boxes (never leave the reactor unattended for more than 60 seconds)
Mechanic repairs machines and mans the guns
Pilot mans the nav console and the guns (put ship on autopilot when you need to man guns, it's not great but it will not crash the sub, there's even a maintain position setting on the autopilot if you don't trust it)
Every crew member fixes leaks and can be a medic if need be, there's a welding tool, blood pack and bandages in every emergency supply box for a reason. Only on a bigger sub do you need dedicated people for these tasks.
If you're ♥♥♥♥ with the guns and crawlers are getting into the sub, have the pilot issue out weapons from the armory to everyone so you can deal with them when they get on board. In a pinch, welding tools and plasma cutters make decent improvised weapons.
As soon as the round starts, have everyone grab a diving mask and welding tool from one of the supply cabinets. All crew members should keep those in their inventory at all times.
The games learning curve difficulty is suggestive at best. For some? The mechanics of the game will come almost naturally, and for others it will seem like a brick wall until someone comes by to explain things and run them through some missions or they watch some youtube videos. (Youtube videos is actually how I began sub building, and thankfully had one guy to occasionally answer my wiring questions when I had any.)
Anyway, like I said. If you want help? Feel free to ad. If not? The game takes time to learn, and if its not suited to your style of learning it will simply just take more time and persistence. The tutorials teach you the basics, other players or time can teach you the rest.
The fun is well worth the learning curve.
My friends and I have played the normal missions to death, and the sort of "final frontier" for us is now Sub v Sub games, hunting the most dangerous creature on Europa : man
