How many rods in the reactor?
So I know how to get the reactor stable on any amount of rods.

But with the current build how many is the most efficient?

1 uranium fuel rod is most of the time enough to feed in power all the ship systems. Using 2 uranium fuel rods on the more "hungry" powergrid is enough to power anything.

1 Thorium or 1 Fulgurium are enough to power anything

EDIT : Thorium rods seems to be the most popular, but that's just a personnal observation

See that too, might be because they give out less heat than fulgurium ones

1 rod is most efficient at all times. The more rods you put in, the more the minimum fission is increased per rod, making it less effective to stick more than one in (less total time with more rods)

Use all slots, no holding back, full force, full speed, full boner. Use all the fuel rods!

It matters if you are using a Custom ship or a Vanillia one.
Vanillia ships 1 is enough.

Custom ships with like 10 guns and 2 engines, results vary.

Using one is enough, but then you have to pay attention to the reactor. The more rods you use, the longer you can go without checking.

Putting any number of rods is safe depending on the engineer dealing with the reactor. So don't mind people who panic just because of the amount of rods in the reactor... 4 rods and 100% fission rate though, then panic.

1 rod uses the least amount of fuel, but because of how slow the automatic control is at moving the reactor fission values 2 rods can actually help with some subs that have issues with the temperature of the reactor being low during mission use because one fission increase tic causes a larger increase in temperature. 3 rods if the reactor is underwater and 4 rods if you really don't want the reactor to die and might be too busy to swap rods around, but it isn't very efficient. Considering how easy it is to get fuel, I normally just start with 2 rods and then add 2 more when they are half used so if a set of rods is used up the reactor doesn't need to be refueled right away. I'd set up a water sensor so it doesn't explode if left unattended and submerged.

Thorium amd fulgurium rods didnt even cross my mind lol.

So essentially depends on the ship size. But one in then another at half way or whenever is good technique for duration.
Parboleum Loyce Jun 16, 2020 @ 2:42pm
Technically the best technique for duration is to only ever have one rod in and swap it out only once completely empty, but that's not practical, and is only preferable when you have a large crew but one man on the reactor at all times.

How is it not practical? I do it like that and it works just fine, most ships can work with one fuel rod

It's impractical because you need to be ready to take manual control of the reactor or swap a fuel rod at a moment's notice rather than being able to do rounds readily and not worry.

You only get 2 rods worth of duration of you stick 4 in there. Multiple rods are impractical.
