How do I not force captain role with 2 person server

I'm trying to play with my buddy but neither of us want to be captain but it always forces one of us to be the captain role, is there any way to disable this?

You cannot deactivate this "feature" on vanilla, but it is entirely possible with mods

EDIT : You know what ? I'm gonna write a mod for you, doing just that. Nothing more, nothing less.

To be fair having a captain is important and also doesn't inconvenience you - Everyone can repair electronics and mechanical things, just the specialised guys are better for it

Well Mods aside, everyone can play as Assistants because they don't get forced into other roles. TBH they're even better than main role because they get a passive exp boost versus every other jobs

They also start with a far better spread of skill than any other job - They're the only job other than the captain to have a passable helm skill too! However, their gear is quite limited and they don't have any access on their keycard...
