Red blob swarm?

This weird thing happened on my last mission. I was trying to salavage a wreck, hit the bottom a little too hard. Hull opened up and these red blobs starting swarming my ship. They looked like blood sploches, but they had health bars. I "killed" some of them with the harpoon gun/welding gun but I am confused as these dont seem to match any enemy I know in the game? What was that?

Those are terminal cells, a variant of the luecocyte and they spawn from wrecks infected with a thalamus.

That didn't seem to work with harpoon guns. Regular guns then I assume.
