Is there a way to edit your sub mid campaign? in-game or through file editing.
I have just discovered that there are no deconstructors on outposts, I have already completed several missions and I am pretty happy with how things are going so far. But I really need a deconstructor. Is there any way I can add one to my ship? Whether it be through the game or through some other way.

Be warnd this will alter your base files and you will expire desyncs in multiplayer. so make a backup kopy first.
Your actualy Save or Sub cant be changed because its binary saved (at least I know) witch leaves you with one Option: Edit the Outposts. That way nextime you start a mission a Outpost with Deconstructor will be loaded.
To edit the Outpost copy them from your Data Folder (they are three, called Outpost.sub Outpost2.sub and Outpost3.sub) into your Submarines Folder. than they appear in the Submarines Editor. after you changed them and saved, paste them back into your Data Folder.
This should work, didnt tryed to ad a Decoinstructor, just had a look with the Editor :)

Hope you can continue your awsome jurney.

Wow thanks dude. I am going to try this now. Although if this is all that needs to be done. Why have the Devs not done this yet? Anyway. Ill post back if this worked for me.

This worked perfectly for me. I didn't even have to go to a new outpost to load the changes.
For those of you trying to copy these steps. This is what I did.

Navigate to your Barotrauma outposts folder, Assuming you are on steam. Your path should be as follows:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Barotrauma\Content\Map\Outposts

There you will find 3 files named oupost - 2 and 3 respectively. (they are .sub if you have files extensions enabled) Then I copied and pasted those file directly back into their original folder. When given the option to replace files, I simply duplicated them. This is just so you have a backup. The Backups will be named "outpost - Copy.sub" along with the numbered 2 and 3 copies.

Now you want to copy the original files one more time and paste them into your submarine folder. which is located under.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Barotrauma\Submarines

Here you will find all of your submarine files and this is where you will paste the three outpost files. Once you have pasted the files you will want to start up the game (or restart it if you already have it started) and go into the in-game submarine editor.

Once in the editor you want to click "Open..." Located in the top left of the editor screen. From there you want to scroll down and locate your first outpost. AKA "outpost". You can use the filter if desired/required. Once you have the outpost loaded in, you are going to want to add a deconstructor. Once again, this can be found using the Filter. From here it is relatively easy, simply place the deconstructor where you want it to be. No wiring is needed. You can also move the Fabricator if you need more space for the deconstructor, or simply want to move things.

Now save the outpost (option to the right of "open" in the upper left corner of the screen.) Accept the prompts. Rinse and repeat for the other 2 outposts.

Once you are done (make sure you save each outpost once you are done with it) exit the game and navigate back to your submarines folder
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Barotrauma\Submarines

Copy the three outpost files. Navigate to your Outpost file.
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Barotrauma\Content\Map\Outposts

Paste the three files there and replace existing files. Now start up the game. Load your save. Benefit. Or of course start a new game. The changes will be the same either way as this is not based on your save, but it is changing the base game.

Finally assuming that you are doing this in multiplayer. While I have not yet tried this myself. I would assume that sending your Outpost files to your friend and having him paste them into his outposts folder would remove any desync issues. Have fun.

Fun fact, writing all this out took me twice as long as performing what I have written. I hope this helps someone else.

Damn after all that I forgot to test first. It says insufficient power. I am going to work on some power options now to see what I can come up with. I am thinking something along the lines of a generator which will work with a little bit of lore. You have to power your own devices if you want to use them. Nothing is free in this world. Anyway I am going to see if I can get generators up and working. Although some stations are too small for this. So I may need to add more space. If I do complete this. I will probably just add the files to the workshop.

Ok I fixed it.
Simply select the Deconstructor in the editor and change it's power requirements to 0.0 (theres two of them "Min Voltage" and "Power Consumption") I could go through and edit all this to make it look like I never had any issues with the game at all, but I think this is both a sufficient tutorial, and a good lesson to new players. This game is about trial and error. Your not gonna get it right the first time. Enjoy guys.

One final note I want to add to this. You will likely want to remove all the Metal Crates from the outposts to prevent easy access to Iron from simply melting the crates down and instead rely on the crates being acquired through purchases. This way melting them down doesn't just feel like getting free resources, but recycling waste. and if you want to keep the crates for immersion purposes, simply place them behind one of the unopenable doors, so it looks like the base has a stock. Also don't forget to add medical Fabricators.
