The little lines seem to indicate a strong current, which can shake the sub a bit and make navigation a bit harder. Not sure if the sonar can detect resources, I've been relying on direct sight. However, they seem to be abundant in caves and crevices

you'll get into it after a short while, using it. There are those standard Blue/green blobs, with blured outline, indicating just a obstacle (Rock or Ice). Live Signals are green with sharp Edges, somtimes you can see Crew mates witch are smaller, monsters bigger and others like Boss creatures have a big sonar blob.

Ruins are easy to spot becauae they have a Rectangle Shape out of Standard Blobs, whyle sometimes objects with big sonar blob are visible too.

Keep in mind a broken sonar screen may add false objects. I didnt noticed it one time a broken device, and thought the whole world is colapsing.

this maybe a bit to ask but what are the chances you or someone else could provide a few pictures to match what you stated above there so that me and im sure other noobs would know what to look for

Walls show up as normal dots, really bright medium-large dots indicate creatures or artifacts, but usually creatures. If you detect lots of normal dots packed together, normally that indicates the walls of some ruins. Little lines represent the water currents. Lots of oddly sized blobs that keep changing means there's some lifeform nearby messing with your sonar, most commonly the
"Sonar Flora" which is a plant that emits long droning noises regularly
Green rectangles represent docking ports
