Devil May Cry 5

Devil May Cry 5

View Stats:
HRESULT=0x887a0006 DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG
I was able to play the games normally on the first day until this problem comes out on the next day.
D:\Software & Applications\Steam\steamapps\common\Devil May Cry 5\DevilMayCry5.exe
"d:\\reengine\reengine\\gitroot\runtime\\modules\\render\\os\\renderdevicedx11.cpp" 4251 present failed. HRESULT = 0x887a0006. The GPU will not respond to more commands. most likely because of an invalid command passed by the calling application.

as i google the HRESULT error code, it is a DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG and the description of the error is:

" The application's device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application. This is an design-time issue that should be investigated and fixed. "

I had tried the following fix:
1) update windows to the latest verion
2) update NVidia graphic driver to the latest
3) adjust between highest and lowest graphic settings
4) increase another 8GB RAM into my PC
5) restore my bios settings to default

and the problem is still here, it happens between 2-10 minutes of gameplay.

Any help will be appreciate.

As a developer, I can tell you the most common cause of this is a compute shader that is taking too long to execute. The OP hasn't mentioned the installed GPU, but intuition tells me it's on the lower-end.

I would suggest turning down graphical settings to try and resolve this. If you can get a less complex compute shader running, there's a chance this will happen less frequently.

Hi Kaldaien,
I had tried to switch all my graphic settings to lowest(except resolution which i tried to set to 1280x720) and it still crashed but everytime it crashed on different checkpoint in a stage.

However, I found a workaround method to prevent the crashing for now by following the steps in the video below. I wonder if there is any side effect from it but it prevent the game from crashing.

I've tried the solution in that reddit thread and it still crashes whenever I look at the first Qlippoth blockade in mission 2, and yeah I did try dx11 and dx12. And it still crashes

Try running the game on DX12, I had this same issue and followed your same steps until I switched back to DX12 and it stopped crashing (at least it hasn't happened and I'm on my 2nd playthrough). I'm also using 399.24 driver, in case you want to try it out, the latest one didn't help me at all.

*Latest Update*
The steps in the video may prevent the 0x887a006 crashes but the game will freeze for a moment, somestimes it may recovered from freezing but sometimes it may not.

Ok i did the all things mention above and manually uninstall and reinstall the graphic driver. Sometimes it will freeze about 1-2 times when the game just start to run, however it will recover from that and no longer freeze or crash in later run. Hope this solution helps those with the same problem.

Please don't necro threads.

Here's the reason for the errors.
