Possible to disable or reduce the lightning effect?
Is there any way of doing this? It's an epilepsy trigger.

Hi deKay, that's something we can look into!

Do you mean the lightning on the title screen? Or in the last few levels?

All of it. I was asking on behalf of someone whose epilepsy is triggered by flashing.

Hi Voxel!

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I would agree that the lightning flashes in the last level might need to be toned down a bit. I don't have epilepsy, but they did start to give me a bit of a headache. The title screen didn't bother me, so maybe it was because I was focusing on the lightning specifically in the last level.

Thanks!

The last level in particular was really bad imo, had to close my eyes for over half of it.

Hi, I'm looking into how to address this issue but I'm not terribly familiar with the solutions to the problem, so I'll need some advice... What specifically would help the most; if the flash was not as bright white (so maybe semi-transparent or not fully white), or if it didn't stay on screen as long, or both? Or something else entirely? In other words, what does "toned down" mean to you? Thank you.

Hi, I've just bought the game and noticed this in the beginning, but is it all throughout the game? I have it too.

Gahh, the lightning towards the end of the game bothers me too, I'm about to just look up what to do in a guide so I can get through it as soon as possible :/ But also on behalf of those with that kind of epilepsy, please add a setting to turn it off or something? I get that it's a cool effect for atmosphere etc., but for some people it's really not cool at all. If you can't make it optional, at least add a heads-up for the game (epilepsy trigger warning :P).

Was planning to buy, luckily I saw this topic -- will have to hold off until it's fixed.

Dev -- please just add an option to turn off the lightning/flashing effects entirely, if at all possible.

Now that I've played through the game, turning all of it off doesn't seem like an option. Having a setting with lowered contrast (not in general, but for those specific effects) would probably help quite a bit, though, so that photosensitive people would still understand that it's lightning, but wouldn't be as bothered by it.

This was my second search result for "how to make a game safe for epilepsy":
http://gameaccessibilityguidelines.com/avoid-flickering-images-and-repetitive-patterns/
(seems like a very helpful website in general)
Note that even if your lightning covers less than 25% of the screen for less than the time mentioned in that list, they also write "it is better to stay on the side of caution, and simply avoid flickering and regular patterns completely wherever possible. [...] If it is not possible to avoid them without harming the game, ensure that adequate and obvious warning is given, and investigate providing an option to disable them".

Can confirm that that site is awesome. Thanks for linking it, löyly -- I should have thought of doing it myself ;>

At least the basic part should honestly be a standard checklist for all devs. I saw after my previous comment that you link to it from your curator which, if you're not going to do it, I'll advertise for as it may be relevant for people reading this discussion ;)
