Specs on your computer would help, like what model and what graphics card you have. The computer olivander has is pretty much the top of the line Mac for its time, using dual 4-core server/workstaion CPUs and he's clearly replaced the graphics card since the 640 came out in 2012.
Old computers, like 1 decade and more, are generally not capable of running this game, although most of the people I've noticed having problems are laptop users. Laptops are generally anaemic because unscrupulous companies often build very underpowered models for their time so they can be sold extremely cheaply, even when they are being labelled as "gaming" laptops (which is fine if the games you play are like Bejewelled or Candy Crush).
I was able to get the game to run enabling "Open the low Resolution" in the Get info window
