Can't craft Alchemy Bench I items at Alchemy Bench II
I don't see anyone else complaining about this but I can't help but feel like this has to be a bug. If this is intentional, I would honestly be shocked that this was okayed by people making the game and that no one thought that this was an issue.

I got pretty far along the line when it comes to smithing and woodworking tech, so I figured I would jump straight to an Alchemy Bench II instead of making a tier 1 version and then eventually upgrading it. So I ground out all the resources I needed, put it together in one of the various, strangely sized positions (Seriously, why make all your workshop locations 3 or 4 tiles wide when you can't rotate half the buildings and they're all 5 tiles long?), and to my surprise I saw that this was the only building that didn't have any recipes. While jarring and so out of place, especially since the game makes NO ATTEMPT to teach you how to even discover recipes, let alone give you one to start off with, I also discovered on the wiki that there is NO WAY to craft black paint (the only thing I needed, since my goal at the time was to make ink for different prayers). There was (and is) no option to just mix two ingredients, at a workstation that is an UPGRADED VERSION OF A PREVIOUS ONE.

I'll say the same as I've said previously: this game is pathetic. The fact that it was released as a full game in this state is not only scummy but an absolute lie. It's like these developers have never played a game before and their only playtester is someone who's afraid to bring up issues because he thinks they're not worth bringing up.

Came here to see if this is an issue or I was just being dumb. Same as above, I built alchemy bench II directly and am unable to craft black ink on it. Also due to the layout of the church workspace it seems nearly impossible to have both alchemy benches and all the other stuff built simultaneously, there simply isn't enough room.

Wow that escalated quickly. You seem pretty wound up about a game. Are you okay?

Here's an excellent and up to date guide on Alchemy to help you through this tough times.

I have to disagree with that buddy. With proper organization I managed to fit everything in the basement and still have room if I decided to add more storage in forms of scroll shelves later. The key word here is proper organization. You can't fit everything if you just build at random.

Thank you for taking the time to write this post. We all love the game and want it to become even better! Fortunately the developers are doing a great job and are working very hard on the game right now. To give the community an overview of what has been reported and how popular it is, I am keeping track of bugs and feature requests:

it looks intended, since the mixing gui requires every slot to be filled, they could easily make another tab at the top that gives another menu with only 2 slots..

there is enough room, when in the build menu, scroll down, the hallway left of the morgue allows to build alchemy stuff too.

Could you please post a screenshot, because I tried and couldn't figure out a way to fit a desk, study table, 2 alchemy workbenches, hand mixer, mill, distillation cube, church workbench, alchemy rack and a scroll rack. I don't even have printing press yet, but I know that's also supposed to go in the same space.

Regardless, I still think it the space could be improved, since every other build space can easily fit everything you might want and offers freedom to customize the layout as you see fit. If there's basically a single way to make the alchemy lab functional then I think that remains an issue.

Oh I did not realize that! I was actually wondering what the purpose of that hallway was. Thank you very much!

Amen to that. I just wish you can rotate all the buildables. Will make the arrangement flow much better.

If you need inspiration for a smoother alchemy workflow layout, check out the guide I've linked to above. It got screenshots and everything. I didn't do it like that since I've already finished the game. But will definitely give it a consideration for my next playthrough.
