And even if they are nopt effecient at the start due to lack of embalming and modification options, they lighten alot of the load.
You can modify zombies the same way as corpses after you turned them into zombies to improve their effeciency
Buy the teleport stone from the Tavern, it has infinite uses (only a cooldown).
Take some time at the start of the game to explore the map and check all NPC, specially what they have to sell.
In the early game, a few items are far easier to buy the 1-2 you need rather than produce them yourself.
I would also not consider the game too grindy, unless you aim for it to be so. A lot of things can be done in multiple ways and some of them are far longer than the rest.
If something you want to do require you to do the same actions 15+ time in a row, then search somewhere else, there's probably a better ways to achieve the same results.
Better save soul has added a way to gain 1 gold for pretty basic stuff. It has also added a way to get a good amount of faith for just basic buildings in the church. And faith is the true bottleneck in this game.
Game of Crone helps out with a good amount of money, backpacks for storing stuff in as well as giving you access to the quary without having to open the path yourself. Just focus on the church as early as possible and it should work out great. Later in the game it also give you a unlimited amount of food (in the sense you can't use it already before it comes back) which can be used to just do a lot of work.
Stranger Sin is in my opinion more of a late game DLC. It does have a high intital cost but the ability to sell beer and wine is the best money income in the game. The problem is actually to get there as it require that you can actually make beer and wine in a good amount of time. This DLC has also given you to skip a step in one of the questlines. Just note that it does come at the cost of not getting the achievement.
From the initial release. The DLC's have helped a lot with the grind. So much it has made plenty of stuff completely obsolete. Some grind is still there, but much better. The biggest problem you have now is how to utilize the aid you get. My recommendation is to focus on getting a good amount of research as well as silver and gold fertilizers unlocked. With that you can easily start selling good quality vegetables and get you on the grind to get gold beer and wine faster.
But for the beginning I would not recommend to use any cheat mods, just those which improve performance (Where's ma Points, Footprint Performance, ..), GUI improvements and somesuch. Achievements are not locked with mods if you start from Steam by the way.
also this excel file will help alot, but can be spoilery. use at your own risk
