It lets me get on with the other parts of the game without wasting too much time on the farm.
Boost (the hourglass) which decrease the time for a crops to grow.
Quality (the star) which increase the amount of crops/seeds/waste generated
Quality I and II will also upgrade a fix amount of seeds to the next level.
If you have bronze seeds and plant them with Quality I, you will receive 1 silver seeds
If you use Quality II you will receive 2 silver seeds.
Peat doesn't upgrade seeds, but it does provide a small speed (boost) of bronze quality.
To upgrade seeds from bronze to gold, you would want to use both boost fertilizer II and Quality fertilizer II.
This would take 2 harvest to have enough silver seeds to plant them
Then 2 harvest with silver seeds to get 4 gold seeds.
Once you have 4 gold seeds, planting with Quality fertilizer II will roughly double the amount of seeds on each harvest. At that point I would recommend to trash the bronze/silver seeds and multiple the gold seeds.
As you can see, using Quality II is twice as fast to upgrade seeds. If you have the ability to make both, it is better to make quality II.
Otherwise you would need twice as many bronze seeds and Quality I to reach the same amount.
Boost change the speed quite drastically. I would definitely recommend making some while you are trying to upgrade seeds.
For all crops except wine, growth time is 24min.
This means that just using Quality II with no boost would take
2*24min=48min to get 4 silver seeds
2*24min = 48min to get 4 gold seeds
For a total of 96min or ~13 days
If you add peat as well = ~10 days
Boost I = 7.5 days
Boost II = 5 days
FYI, Zombies farms don't upgrade or multiply seeds. They can only produce from already existing seeds and will return on average the same amount of seeds.
They are completely useless at to generate the first few silver/gold seeds or to multiply them into a larger amount.
P.S: If you are using peat, make sure to apply peat FIRST, then apply Quality, otherwise the quality will be erase by peat.
Q2 (gold star fertilizer) is what you *want*, which provides you with 2 upgraded seeds (and produce) per crop. You *could* use Q1, but it'll only provide 1 upgrade per crop.
Any of the Boosts are completely optional - up to you. If you're literally waiting on the crops, I'd use a better boost than what Peat provides, but then if you aren't immediately harvesting when they mature, you might not want to worry about a Boost at all.
The one exception I always mention is Grapes; they take 50% longer than all other produce (36 vs 24 min), so you'd probably want to Boost that, and if Peat is the best you got, use it.
Also important to note that, even if using two fertilizers per plot, you'll pretty much always have a net-gain of Peat, so you should always use *something* when it comes to fertilizer.
I'd just keep using Q2; you'll get ~2 more seeds on average per crop compared to Q1.
Thank you guys. Unfortunately, I'm back in the endgame for the 3rd time, where everything runs by itself. I still have to breed seeds from time to time because they went below 24 in the refugee camp.
With the benefits of persistence and industriousness, I don't even have to eat/sleep much.
With the prayer for excellence and all perks, you can already guarantee gold quality for everything important, but it can be nice to have 100% chance of something without a temporary buff.
The persistence is indeed not very useful, as by the time you have it. You most probably already have an energy source secured and don't sleep.
