You'll get the introduction events, but after that, unless you engage with the story, you can ignore it until you want to actually play.
Breaking Dead: Comes bundled with base game for Steam players. After three weeks, walking into the morgue triggers a conversation with Gerry about zombies.
Stranger Sins: Give silver quality wine to Gerry.
Game of Crone: Church must be open. Go to sleep (there are three separate quest lines. One with Donkey, one with the Villagers where you get dragged to a meeting, one where someone shows up in your house).
Better Save Soul: Not available for Switch. Must have morgue chute repaired. Next corpse delivery triggers start.
I also would recommend playing the DLC's in order (ignoring BD since it has no story/lore).
SS has the most spoilers/lore followed by GoC. BSS has a small amount of world building, but nothing super crucial in my opinion.
It is best to start playing the DLC after you have completed the base game at least once, simply because of the story. It does make one part slightly trickier to do (for BSS), but otherwise you get spoilers which could actually end up being slightly confusing.
Yeah, you'll be able to ignore it after getting the initial quests.
