Different events prefer different foods.
The first are the consumable event sales that the others are referring to; place a bunch of food into the bartenders inventory, trigger an event using the blueprint table, and a certain amount of that food will be sold, depending on the type of event and the TQ.
The second is the passive beverage sale that happens ~6 times a day which OP seems to be referring to, though this only applies to approved beverages (Beer, Mead, Red Wine, and Booze) which are stockpiled in the cellar of the Talking Skull.
