There is a difference between blue (faith) points and the swirly light blue research points. You can "burn" paper in the research bench in the basement of the church to earn science points. Every night from dusk-midnight there will be four bats that spawn north of your house, three that spawn at the beehive area, and three bats north of the beehives. These ten bats' wings can be turned into paper at the Church Workbench (in groups of 5).
The first things you should research are loose body parts for some sweet early blue faith points. As Lunarwolfqueen mentioned the stone graves are an excellent choice of early game tech. You can craft headstones and get red (might) points and faith points. Then you can disassemble them for more rocks to make more headstones.
Doing this enough can actually break the game in half, since getting to Beefriend makes energy effectively free once you build all the beehives...honestly, in some of my longer-running saves, I've got TOO MUCH food to make sense.
Once the church is unlocked you can access the study table in the basement and start studying objects. This requires faith (which you gain from sermons in the church) and paper (which can be made at the church workbench), studying certain things will give you blue points.
Unlock the research that allows you to produce stone graveyard fences, once you have this research you can make your own blue points at the stonecutter in your garden. Each stone graveyard fence you make will give you 5 blue points

If you don't use it you can disassemble it and get 1 stone back.
This is the best trade I know: 1 stone (and energy) for 5 blue points.
