Cant complain to the devs as they have NO control over the steam cloud.
People in this thread seem to be making excuses for the game, It is plainly advertised on the front store page that Steam Cloud is supported.
After starting the game on my PC, then just the mere act of launching it on my Deck wiped my saves. This is a problem that needs to be addressed.
I think you have terms confused here. Cloud save and syncing are the same feature.
Syncing is the act of the saves being uploaded/downloaded from the cloud save.
If you are referring to the Dynamic Sync feature, that is different and allows save data to be sync'd while a session is active and ongoing. It is also an Opt-In feature on the Dev side, and Steam will not try to use it until the Dev claims it's compatible.
If you are saying the dev opted in and it's causing conflict, then that is on the dev to work with Valve and ensure that they have properly integrated the API into the game.
Yes, I am fully aware that the Cloud Sync API is created by Valve, and while I have not worked with it directly, I do have some knowledge over it's function and have read the partner documentation for it.
There is clearly something wrong with the integration here if it's wiping out saves when trying to sync to another device. It is on the Dev's to ensure the API is properly integrated, in this case it looks like they are using Auto-Cloud. If moving to another device exposes the risk that the saves might be overwritten, then clearly there is an issue with the structure in the game.
Anyways, I was able to recover my save, but am glad that I made a backup of the games backup after watching how this game handles it's save structure. If I had not done so, I would have lost them as I watched the game wipe out the backups just trying to get them working again.
Naw, its Steam for not ensuring end to end integrity checks. UDP is a poor choice for data like game saves.
Its funny they can check game files on the PC but cant check save data?
And PS - its well documented among many many games where saves are lost. Its not just 1 game.
