Game of Crones isn't bad, but it's generally there to smooth over the later quests if you stick to it early.
Stranger Sins:
Contains a lot background story.
The tavern can be fully automated (grapes -> wine -> profit). You can make a quick visit to collect your money.
Game of Crone:
Adds less background story.
Increase max rating of graveyards to 16.
Add bags.
So if you are interested in story, stranger sins will suit you better.
IMHO Game of Crone is the better DLC from gameplay perspective.
You could see for yourself, why they dont recommend. But Greenbord did summarize them:
1. bugs at launch
2. multiple endings
The second one would trouble me too. Missable perks, losing the camp.
AFAIK the only missable content so far were an achievment. The story itself were pretty much on rails.
