be warned that you'll need faith to do that, which is also a freakin pain to gain early.
Science points comes from studying books and papers, and is a different thing from blue points you get from crafting and writing, which one are you referring to?
Apparently I unlocked a book for 5 silver from the Astrologer to get 25 blue research. I assume this is the bottle neck needed to get points to unlock other methods to get blue research.
How do you study books when your study table needs the same science points?
Also I have no option to even build a workshop bench under the church. How are people building this table?
The study table requires Faith and Study points (Science).
The easiest way get Study points (Science) early on is to put Clean paper in the study table.
Clean Paper you can get from unlocking "Writing" (cost 5 blue pts) and then building a Desk.
IMPORTANT: With those tech points unlock the Stone Grave Fence, it only costs a few stones to craft but it also gives blue techpoints every time you craft one. With stone being very easy to get in the quarry you now have a unlimited supply of cheap techpoints without needing to spend science or faith points.
There is already one built in the church basement on the left side. No need to craft another.
How do you build the workbench in the church basement?
I'm going to try and break the subject down into (hopefully) simpler and smaller pieces of important information.
The Church Workbench blueprint is unlocked in the Book Writing Technology Tree (third icon, lighter blue with a feather design), under Paper Crafting for 10 Red points.
The only requirements are the 10 Red points and to have Research (Book Writing Tree) unlocked, which happens automatically when you Reopen the Church and is the first of the entire tree.
After unlocking the Tech, you can make it at the little table with the blueprint on it in the Alchemy Lab (the tunnel under the church accessed by the stairs on the right).
You will need 9x Flitch, 10x Nails and 4x Complex Iron Parts (mind, you also need to unlock these in the Smithing Tree if you haven't yet).
And you're set with your brand new Church Workbench.
>>> now for the rest of the stuff that's been mentioned <<<
Red (physical), Green (nature) and Blue (knowledge - spiritual and otherwise).
How to get them:
They are used together with Science to Study items for Tech Points and for a hint of what you can decompose them into, if anything.
They are also necessary for some NPC quests so be mindful of how you spend them. This is why, unlike Science, Faith is an item you can carry in your inventory.
You get Science at the Study Table itself by "studying" Clean Paper (and later Notes, Chapter, Book and Lens, in increased amounts). It works exactly like Wooden Sticks, Firewood and Coal do at the Oven or Furnace to give you Fuel.
Pigskin Paper is made from Skin harvested from Corpses at the Morgue (1 skin makes 4 paper), or from Bat Wings if you've killed some (5 wings make 2 paper).
Clean Paper is made with Pigskin Paper (1 pigskin makes 4).
Clean Paper can also be crafted at a Desk (which needs to be unlocked with Writing at the Book Writing Tree for 5 Blue and 5 Red points) from Ruined Books and River Sand, or at the Paper Press (which comes much later in the tree and depends on other Tech being unlocked, yet doesn't require Blue points) with Paper Glop and White Paint.
The first option is the best in early game for obvious reasons.

I tried not to leave any spoilers but if there's anything that should be hidden, let me know.
Happy to help with any other questions, but all of this information can be found at the game's Wiki[graveyardkeeper.gamepedia.com].
There may be a few things missing, like pages about the new DLC, and some obsolete information because of the most recent updates, but most of it is useful. At the very least, it should point you in the right direction.
Thank you for helping me with this tight progression spot. I see now that it's crucial to read very carefully the tech trees.
To be clear, Comfort of Faith will not give you the Church WORKbench crafting station. It will give you the Church Bench furniture to place inside the Church, which helps increase your Church Rating ✝ by one point - just like Gravestones and Fences do for your Graveyard.
You had originally asked about the Church Workbench, the workstation that lets you craft paper, book bindings, fertilizer and embalming liquids, and is created/placed in the Alchemy Lab (church basement). Is that not what you're looking for?
Specially because you need the Church Workbench to get your first Blue points (without buying them). It makes the Clean Paper needed to 'trade' for Science at the Study Table.
Stone Grave Fences are a good suggestion but to unlock them you need 10 Blue points, plus the energy to craft them (and break them apart again if you're only farming). You get 5 Blue points for each one created.
I did forget to mention there's a way to get Clean Paper without crafting it: you can buy it from the Astrologer on Sloth Day (blue moon symbol). You can find him by the Lighthouse. However, the base cost is 1 Silver and money is a little tight in early game too.
So much for taking my own advice...wow I need my glasses.
The main thing is I've unlocked some more stuff to do in the game and loving it. But don't worry I'll probably be back later with another problem if the wiki don't solve it. Thanks!
