Faceted Diamonds are limited??

Are diamonds seriously only obtainable in the dungeon? I used up all the ones I could get on the early levels of the dungeon, and now I can't go any further in the dungeon because I have to progress further in Snake's quest, which I can't do because I need a damask sword which REQUIRES diamond. Is there really no other way to get one? It seems like a huge oversight if the game lets you screw yourself over like this. It seems like I should be able to get one through mining, but I have yet to find anything concrete that confirms this. Please help!

Nope ... used to be able to buy (and sell) them from the Merchant. The GoC update removed them, cuz the devs are sometimes kinda silly.

Yeah that really seems counter intuitive lol
I feel like they should have them be obtainable through mining coal just at a really low chance or something, that would at least be realistic

I recall it being a technology unlock that lets you get them from mining and I'm positive I've seen them drop from the iron mine in the quarry (not the auto zombie mines but the one where you dig yourself). But until you get that technology unlock you wont see them.

Yes and no. You need the technology to mine them, late in the stone tech tree, but you only find the crystals to mine them in the Dungeon. On levels 8, 11, 13, and 15. After that, there's no more diamonds. I suggest before you mine any of them, get the jeweler perk. You get 1 more diamond per node for having the perk. (4 per crystal when mining normally and 5 from mining with the perk.)
A lot of people say that there's a very awfully low chance to get them from mining the outcrops in the quarry, but I haven't seen one yet, so if it's true that's a testament to how terribly low chance it is.
