Can’t create Alkali
I have all ingredients studied: Life powder, Death Solution, and Blood. The Alchemy Workbench II does not recognize the Death Solution. (playing on Switch btw)

Are you putting them in the right order? The blood can go in any position, but the other two can only go in specific places, so if you put the blood in the wrong place it will say you can't put anything in the third slot.

Stupid Q checklist:
Definitely Life powder? - yellow dust ... *not* 'Spices' (also yellow).
Definitely Death solution? - dark purple cup ... *not* Chaos solution (light purple).
Definitely Blood? - red drop, placed in the third slot.

P.S. Shouldn't need to study the ingredients themselves ...just need to study the items that your're planning to decompose into those desired alchemy reagents.
