Black Smith Tier 2 locked

I have been trading with the black smith trying to unlock his second and third tier trades. However, anytime I trade with him the progress bar never moves. How do I fix that?

I think the bar moves based on the value of the trades you make with them.

Have you tried the prayer for prosperity? A bronze prayer of this type will give you a single piece of paper, that you can "sell" to an NPC. The next day, it the NPC will have unlocked a new tier of his inventory.

I haven't tried the prayer yet, but whenever I trade with him his progress bar doens't move at all.

Make a prosperity sermon and use it, give the scroll it drops to an npc trader to up their level

Just do it, the prayer for prosperity works. Honest. It worked for me for the blacksmith so it SHOULD work for you.

I ran into an issue with the Witch where her progress bar wouldn't move, and each day would bet set to a random amount, or be completely empty.

What I ended up doing in that case was saving up the Blessings of Commerce you get from doing the Prayer for Prosperity and selling them to her in one big batch.
Though I was having another problem with her, where her on-hand money was way too low, so I had to sell the blessings back and forth, basically giving her shop a boost of money by giving mine over and that seemed to work to unlock her next Tier.

Maybe you'll be able to do the same without needing to fork over money in the process, but if the blessings aren't enough, try to increase the NPC's on-hand money as well.

It moves very slowly.
However if you sell him 600 coal, he'll unlock all his teirs.

Just mine coal and sell all in one go, and then buy most of his ingots and other things. With so much being traded all at once, he'll fully unlock.

That's not a great solution though since he'll take six hundred days to empty his inventory again, that very much just sidesteps the issue and renders the vendor useless afterward.

It's not useless, it unlocks him and he'll restock the things to sell. He empties the coal and it doesn't take that much time.

Besides you don't really 'have' to unlock him. Buying the cauldron is not the preferrable strategy, becuase it costs too much and making the health potion is easy.

doesn't stop it from being a gimmicky workaround, there's a lot of things in the game like this that should be addressed instead of pushed under the rug like this

why do you need to unlock it in the first place? never needed anything from the smith which I couldn't craft myself. All smithing resources are abundant.

the cauldron is a waste of time when you can give her 1 health potion from the first 2 floors of the dungeon. Also this is from 5 years ago.

I found the best way to level up the blacksmith is by mining about 600 coal then just sell as much as you can in one go this is how I got to level 2
