Can't pay the merchant

Hello.

So I wanted to buy the garden without the hasstle of bringing him the crops, buy even though I had 5 silver coins, the game wouldn't let me pay him when he lowered the price.

I accidentally clicked "no deal", but after I apologized he lowered the price of the garden to 1 coin, which I have, both silver and the other type of coin, but the game doesn't let me pay him.

The quest says to "make nice" but I don't know how.

I have searched in google with "merchant make nice" or "merchan pay for the garden", but I didn't find anyone else with this problem.

Am I missing something or did the merchant get bugged?

There's three tier of money; copper(or bronze?), silver, and gold. 100 copper = 1 silver. 100 silver = 1 gold. The merchant is asking you for 10, then 5, then 1 gold ...and you're offering 5 silver?

Oh man, I didn't even know there was a third tier of coins. I just got started playing this morning.

Never had this one myself. I kept rejecting his offer and he asked me to bring him crops instead.

Yeah, after denying the 10G and 5G offers, he explains the request for crops, which you can also deny ...at which point, he gets offended (as the player is arguably being unreasonable) and simply demands 1G. Personally, I'd just get him his crops, but the 1G can be an interesting challenge, I suppose ...and saves you having to invest in beet production (least useful crop).

Yeah, I regret refusing the crop solution (though it was by mistake), so I'm starting over.

Not just because of that, but because I have learned a lot more about the game and some tricks and tips (I haven't and won't spoil the ending for me), so I wanna start over and apply my new knowledge.

Pretty excited.
