Cannot pick up logs?

I feel like I'm missing something stupidly obvious here but the game isn't letting me pick up logs when I chop down trees? I have the timber stockpile, is there any technology or other craft table I need before I can pick them up?

I was expecting them to auto-inventory the way other items did >>;;;

you can pick up one and push 2 or 3 on the ground ahead of you. it takes a little practice and it's MUCH easier to push them up or down the map (north-south) rather than to the sides (east-west). if i have to take a sideways path, sometimes i'll just carry them all, one at a time, to the next up-down path.

Logs and blocks of iron,s tone and marble don't go into inventory, they have to be carried one at a time or pushed to a storage facility and placed tehre (by you or zombies) and then cut/broken up at a workstation (circular saw, stone cutter, etc.) to make pieces that can be carried in your inventory.

Zombies make this a LOT easier, but there's a bug where they drop them all over the ground under certain conditions so sometimes you have to clean up after them. Stupid zombies. :)

Maybe if you give them a better brain they will stop doing that.
