As soon as topic caused a lot of discussions over here, we'd like to clarify something.
Game is story-driven, so you have to play as Men with a Beard, because it is his story.
Imagine there is other character to play, then you won't be able to pass through story we made.

We know, some players prefer customization (including gender), but now this is story of one person who reconsidering his own life and sense of it.

Maybe we will add some kind of alt-story someday, as our players wants to.

Nah, only as a Man with a Beard.

I already try to imagine a girl that digs up graves, lift bodies and do "men's work"

There are a lot of men who can't do "men's work". That said, when working at a funeral home, coroner's office, hospital, etc., it's not unusual to have two or more people hoisting a body to where it needs to be.

Maybe....your wife does come into this "plane of existence"...but i don't consider this a priority. Guys plays as guys or as girls or dogs or dinosaurs with no problem, i hate this new trend of "female protagonist" steam tag and necesity.
being a female would need the programmers to change a huge part of the dialogue and write new text, it would be very expensive or else it would seem like a lazy effort and that's something none of us want

A new opening cutscene, a rewrite of maybe 20 lines of dialog, and a female sprite is not actually a huge ask. Excluding the sweet ladies from the witchy crap is not groovy.

lol bad bait is bad. that said most indie devs dont have money for making twice the stuff one for male one for female so thats not odd seeing only one.

Sorry i'm allergic to bad bait.... Back to anime with you.

I'm an actual game dev and I'm here to say that making a girl character is not hard at all

It's but a skin, and you'd only need 1 more var, which tells with skin to load. You'd need to make a new sprite sheet, sure, but the same thing goes for every single character in the game.

Now, asking for the town, a whole new map, with many new characters and dialoges, now that's easy and okay, but asking for a girl character that's just a visual change? nah, too hard!

Have the devs for this game said making a female character is to hard? If yes, then lol. If no, it's a non-issue. Either way they aren't beholden to change their vision of their game to anyway. Gender of characters takes backseat to content and fun.

*edit- Also, budget is a concern. What is or isn't easy doesn't translat to what is or isn't economically reasonable.

Cool to see all the guys in the thread assure us it doesn't matter. I'm sure their opinion would be exactly the same if they were having to play Barbie's Dream Graveyard.

Those same guys likely didn't care playing as Laura Croft or Samus or Princess Peach or insert whatever other female character which is equally applicable. Since the game isn't Barbie's Dream Graveyard, point's moot either way.

Raise your hand if you are a guy and have ever played Super Princess Peach (the only game ever released in which Princess Peach was the only playable character), even for three minutes on an emulator. Hell, raise your hand if you are any gender and have ever played Super Princess Peach.
