There are a lot of men who can't do "men's work". That said, when working at a funeral home, coroner's office, hospital, etc., it's not unusual to have two or more people hoisting a body to where it needs to be.
being a female would need the programmers to change a huge part of the dialogue and write new text, it would be very expensive or else it would seem like a lazy effort and that's something none of us want
It's but a skin, and you'd only need 1 more var, which tells with skin to load. You'd need to make a new sprite sheet, sure, but the same thing goes for every single character in the game.
Now, asking for the town, a whole new map, with many new characters and dialoges, now that's easy and okay, but asking for a girl character that's just a visual change? nah, too hard!
Have the devs for this game said making a female character is to hard? If yes, then lol. If no, it's a non-issue. Either way they aren't beholden to change their vision of their game to anyway. Gender of characters takes backseat to content and fun.
*edit- Also, budget is a concern. What is or isn't easy doesn't translat to what is or isn't economically reasonable.
Those same guys likely didn't care playing as Laura Croft or Samus or Princess Peach or insert whatever other female character which is equally applicable. Since the game isn't Barbie's Dream Graveyard, point's moot either way.
