can't open gate?

I have 2 keys: an Active Key and the Keeper's Key. Yet I cannot open the gate in the basement (where Snake used to be at).

What am I missing?

Talk to Snake on Green Day. He'll open it.

You have to talk with snake when he's 'there', to unlock it.

When Snake is there? I have two keys plus the fake coins but he's not appearing anymore, does he appear in the morning at green day? or at night? I can't find him!

He arrives at early moring and leaves before sunset after you give him the 5 faith.

...though is also a bit random, not bound by the type of day yet. Once you open the gate, then he'll show up regularly on green day. I'd just check every now-and-then throughout each day.

Came here to see why the eff I couldn't open the gate with my new shiny Active key. The "oops can't, need key" pop-up when you try while having the key in inventory is infuriating. Don't remember Snake having said anything about coming back on specific day (let alone coming daytime and not night) or threatening to slice my ears off if I opened the gate without him.
