He gives you recepie. But yeah, these NPC's features are, apparently, uncleaned loose ends. Which is a bit irritating, but heck, since a certain AAA game had a missing comma that basically disabled AI completly - and it went for 6 years without anyone paying attention, I'm not that worried or surprised by these little things.

Do you mean the iron axe? Did he not give you 2 recipes?

You only need to enter his house in the Tavern DLC. If you are asking because you have the DLC, and cant enter, he asks you to get the stolen documents which require a comedy standup event.
