How do you avoid the TOWN/FORT trap?

So we know already that trying to unlock the town/fort means literal death. Even if it's being played off as a 'joke', it doesn't undo all the stuff we end up doing to get the town pass/items you need to unlock those areas. Before getting zapped.

So I was wondering if we could put together a list/series of actions so as to avoid useless labor within the game, as it's already quite the grind. Depending on the feedback I get from this, I'll put together a guide later. :)

I do not know, whether you can progress with snake's quest unless you find out, you cannot go to town yourself. I have counted 3 forced deaths until now and all had something to do with snake and you being immortal. There is even a Highlander-flavor achievement 'There can be only one'
I guess, some kind of easter egg. I do not know whether I have to behead Snake laters or not to get it.

dr.desato is right in that you'll NEED to try to get to town in order to progress in the story. So there's really no way past it. Also - you can't get to the Fort at all.

If you get the Town Pass from Snake, you've not really wasted any effort - it's free once you get his friendship to 20 (iirc) and you do that anyway by following his quests. Ditto for the meat stamp at 30 friendship, I believe.

i befriended snake aswell and got the town pass from him, but yeah the lightning was a bummer, i was hoping to sell my food at a premium seeing as there's a moderate case of famine currently, but the gate to the town is locked again, and i can't get another town pass, did i do something wrong?

On twitter they replied to someone explaining the joke. They stated that everyone in the town including you represent the 7 deadly sins. I imagine that the reason everyone wants to go to town is to sell things. And in general, all we wanna do as the player is do whatever is necessary to get home, to make money, etc. Likely making us greed. So I guess we get killed when we go into town because of that. It makes a bit more sense, though I do feel that the joke is still a little lost in translation.

Personally, I really don't care about the town either way. However, the devs should just make a public post telling people about the town and explaining the joke for people to see. I literally only found their explanation in their twitter replies by chance when I wasn't even looking for it. It won't alleviate the butthurt people but it'll at the very least clear a bit of the stangnant air.

Even without explains I can understand the fact, that the keeper is stranded at the graveyard and is 'cursed' not to leave it, so no town or escape by death...
A bit like in the movie Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. The young Whipper-snappers can google this one up... :)

It's shameful is what it is. So much of this game is unfinished and passed off as a "joke" yet they're laughing all the way to the bank with you guys' money.

It's actually a point of the plot and if you read the stuff ingame you get many hints telling you the spirit of the town is literally alive and trying to kill you.
