Crates for merchant?

I'm not sure what I'm missing. How do I sell vegetables / crate them for the merchant business.

Its something you need to build in your garden area...once you build it, it will tell you what you need to make each crate...i believe it is flitch + nails + a certain quantity of produce

Exactly this. Go to your "kitchen garden" (just your garden), in the planner, where you can make new fields etc. you should have the option to make a "packing table". There you can craft crates with your produce.

Do I really need to transport every single crate one by one to the merchant or is there a way to transport more than one crate at a time. Am I missing something?

Can't you kick them to the village like the logs or big stone chunks?

I'd really love to be able to purchase/craft a cart to transport bulk items that can't fit in inventory. And then maybe you can pull your own cart, to carry ~5(?), until you can hire a mule of your own, or hire the donkey so it can make some extra cash/carrots/whatever. It could be a potential fun little quest chain if you had to carefully convince/fool it, or whatever.

Yea, I also thought the donkey would get the function to transport the boxes later, what a fool I was.

Is there anything needed to unlock this "Packing table" tech? I don't seem to have it on the menu in the garden build planner...

it's actually in the workshop area, not the garden area

Hmm, it seems no one mentioned it. You can put a zombie (may be a weak one) in the cellar, in a porter station (right from the pallets) that was created when you build the crate factory.
