How do I use peat?
I plant it but it never goes away and never seems to do anything...

It's the cheapest fertilizer. Plant other seeds after putting down the peat and you'll get more faster growth/more yield/sometimes more seeds back from that crop.

Is it suposed to eventualy disapear on its own? It never goes away I have to pull it back up to get rid of it. I have left it where it is at minium 2 weeks.

You first "plant" it (the fertilizer) and on top of / after it you also need to plant normal seeds.

How do I plant it on top? This game has one of the least intuitive interfaces I have ever seen.

Just plant a seed after you have planted the fertilizer by selecting a seed.

I have it seems to replace the Peat rather than use it

To clarify: put fertiliser into seed slot and press "craft" - soil will get in-world signs telling you the boosts it currently receives. Then remove leftover fertiliser and plant seeds as usual. Fertiliser is only good for one plant cycle

Because peat is not a plant, it's a soil additive that in the real world helps plants grow by making the soil more porous so that the roots can breath better and for moisture retention.

Try this, work in peat then add the seeds.
What may clear this confusion a bit would be two slots once a plot space is selected; One to add soil modifiers such as peat or fertilizer, and one for the seeds one wishes to use. At the moment, gardening is annoying.

Not necessarily part of this discussion, why not have the donkey crap(RNG) when he drops off a body. It would help a lot with the carrots he demands from us :)

When you plant peat, the signposts appear on the land, they never go away, you can pre-fertilize and plant later. Once you have used peat, click on the same spot, remove the peat and place seeds. The peat doesn't go away, but it is used for the seed production.

The hourglass means the plants will grow faster, and the star means you will grow more and better quality goods.
