Ending discussion [spoilers]
So... obviously spoilers ahead. I think the ending felt kinda sudden (from a story telling standpoint, gameplay wise it was a VERY long road to get to it) - you concluded the 6 (or should I say 3?) major quests and get ready to finally solve the mystery who sent you here, why you were sent here and who built the portal and has the power to send you to a new life - and go to activate the portal and think that one last major quest will now happen - getting the 7 stones to glow (7 deadly sins, 6 of them weekdays, last one missing is greed, hinted to be yourself). The other days all representing their respective sin and person who is faulty of it and overcame it. (wrath inquisitor, etc.) Except for yourself as you only did all of that for yourself after all... ^^" But oh well, let's count him as finally seeing helping others as not just helping himself so all 7 sins of the people representing them gone activate the different stones and the portal and bring back your girlfriend to you.
So instead of a final quest or another nice voyage you get a decent but rather sudden ending. One that in retrospect makes SENSE because of the representations, but it still felt kinda of weak because everything built up to this moment and then it's just everyone thanking the protagonist and activating the portal instead of going to one last major conclusion quest. (like something wanting to use the portal for evil for example as it can grant the deepest desire - like the protagonist who wants his girlfriend back) Some final showdown would have been a nice adidition. And even the donkey and skull comment on this and joking about DLC and all the things we never saw. (city, ship voyage, etc.)

But real talk now: will we get a DLC or some update with a small expansion on the ending? It didn't even really show how everything exactly ended for everybody. Everyone had some kind of plan but the zombie apocalypse was about to happen because the curse could not be lifted. At least a 2 minute scene showing all the main characters and what happened to them or at least a text scroll stating how they fought off the curse in the end by working together and overcoming their sins one more time. Or is there just a secret ending maybe if you have enough skulls in your cemetery or something which I missed?

I enjoyed the game (played with sprint mod to be able to sprint very fast by using energy) but the ending felt weak. The "epic conclusion" was just a "portal is open now, gf is back and the world they live in is still doomed - what happens to everyone and the protagonist? I don't know, the end."

There could have been a great conclusion to the story with just 2-3 minutes added showing the outcome of the curse and how it was overcome or at least telling what happened. But this just feels like a cop out instead. It basically ended before the actual ending. It's like Lord of the rings ending when they reach mordor instead of ending with the ring thrown into the volcano and showing how well everyone did after the battle was finally won with some celebrations and "what happened to x y z".

I hope the devs can ellaborate if there is either anything like that planned or if there was something like that planned but too much of a hassle to put it. Ending it on a cliffhanger is just a mean tease as this is not a story which has enough to offer to be concluded in a future game. So we either get an update or the game stays this open ended which feels bad in a game which takes so much work to finish. You always got rewards along the way which felt great but the final reward missing really left a very sour taste in my mouth. I couldn't even laugh at the DLC joke they did due to that. I didn't want to see the city or a voyage, but at least get a decent conclusion the the whole curse story and what happened to everyone. Not to mention that the main mystery - who is the dude from the start that gave you this new life and WHY did he do it? - is never solved. And who built this portal? Was it from the same race that the dude from the beginning was from? Nothing of this is ever answered.

So can you continue playing after the ending or does it take you back to the menu and you have to load a save?
Cinericius Aug 18, 2018 @ 4:14pm
I don't know what you guys expected.. The goal of the game is to get back to your love, in your world. Not forever be a graveyard keeper.
Earthplayer Aug 18, 2018 @ 9:55pm
You can't continue playing. It ends. You can however go back to the last time you saved as the game does not save after you finish the game. And it's not really short from a gameplay perspective, I think the price is fair for the amount of gameplay and fun, but the story just feels cut off in the end. He gets what he wants (his girlfriend) but the major mysteries/storyarcs you uncover are never solved/shown. And @Cinericius - the game VERY often teases you with things like the city which you had to spend money to get to but can't actually ever reach (you get shot by lightning and think you might be able to get there later). And the other plotpoints I mentioned above. The main issue is that all the mysteries like who is that dude who revived you is, who/what made those ruins and how do they work and what will happen with the curse and the possible zombie apocalypse are all hinted at and tease you several times in the story (including the ending itself) to make you think they will all be solved in the finale and instead you just get your girlfriend and the game ends without solving ANY of those things and then it even makes fun of the ending by saying how many things it left open and the donkey makes some jokes about how they might be greedy capitalists who could sell "true ending" DLC now. (which really seems like a joke and not something they actually consider doing)

PUNCH CLUB SPOILER AHEAD

It's actually kinda known who this is, by the very specific design. It's the man with the red eye, the main villain from Punch Club.

And while your comparison to the Lord of the Rings match pretty well GK, for PC it was exactly like ending the Empire Strikes Back just after "I am your father" (And i do mean "exactly" :) ). So i wasn't surprised at the end of GK, but i was still as frustrated as you.

You have content for 60 hours and say its not worth the price?

Even for 120 hours if you have to restard the whole game because of a bug :>

However I do think the price (below 20eur even) is fine for such a game. I also wished we'd get more for an ending but can't say it's overpriced.

Hey guys.
I know this is about 4 years late, but I just feel the need to have my input here.

I bought the game a while ago and every now and then i get HOOKED on this game. bsolutely love it. I finished it just now and it dawned on me, the ending sucks. I should probably also mention I have all the DLC's as well.

I'm a completionist so I made sure I finished all the DLC quests, was well on my way to understand the "Better Save Soul" mechanics with the skulls as well, but I felt like I missed something since I couldn't remove any red or white skulls on the worktable. The DLC parts just ends with no real conclusion, so many cliff hangers about every NPC in the game. I don't mean just the DLC quests, but everything feels like a cliff hanger. Sure the "Sins" have their own little endings, but "Stranger Sins" focuses so much on the lore and stories about the NPC's ages ago, and with that DLC it makes so little sense that the game itself don't have a good ending lore.
"Game of Crone" is kind of just there for perks and a good way to start the game with some extra materials, ingredients and money, but it also ends suddenly.

Went to check the last quest just to see the ending and I remembered how much the ending of the game sucks. I completely agree with everything you say Earthplayer.
There is no real ending for any NPC with the slight exceptions of the 6 sins in the game. Donkey, Garry, Euric, Teodoro etc, and the man with the red eyes should defenitly have more of a story as well.
And don't even get me started on the part where you don't even reach 100 friendship with alot of the NPC's. It makes it feel unfinished.
Watching the ending made me think that the game could continue, we get to know what really happened to him and at the very end game the protagonist realized that him and his gf is stuck there but at least they have each other or something like that.
I'm so invested in the stories and lore while playing the game that I don't care how it would have continued, as long as it continued and not just this abrupt ending. The game takes a long time to get to the end point and this being the end of the game without any real explenation, not even saving the file to register the quests finished is just very anticlimactic

I just got done with all the DLC and saw the full ending with the one eyed man in the dark. Cool game and I loved the story.

A few comments, I always though Hodaric was supposed to be greed as he is ridiculously money grubbing the entire game. But I guess it could be the Keeper too as you end up ludicrously rich at the end.

I think the ending where the man with 1 eye splits you is designed to set up for a sequel where you play the other half in the village south of the town, or in another world entirely.

The stories are left a little open ended with mystery, I actually kind of like that in stories, having to figure out for yourself a little bit.

Unresolved issues seem to be, who is the man with 1 red eye, he seems to be the old god that was originally worshipped by the village, but no information about who or what he is, other than he was willing to create the pact to remove the undead issue.

What is in the town to the south? You walk in and immediately die then you can never go back. I am tipping there is a second keeper in the town and the followers of the old god reside there, separate to the followers of the new god who are in the village.

I finished Graveyard keeper right after playing Punch Club 2, and have to say, the last one end really sucks. Both games are incrible beautifull and well done, with a lot of fun, but seens like the producers can´t make a ♥♥♥♥** end to the story.
You CAN make a game and end the plot and still go on a sequel, you dont need to cut in half and finish with a cliff hanger. Its just give you a uncompleted felling, like all the journey in the game was pointless.
Those games are amazing, but i will never play another one from lazy bear/tiny build, ever.
