Timber Stockpile cost?
Removed my timber stockpile to relocate it, realised after removing it that it costs wooden beams.
Without a timer stockpile I am unable to create wooden beams hence ruining my entire playthrough forcing me to start again.

Not sure if this is a bug* or if im just missing something. Anyone else experienced this?

You can buy wooden beams from the lumberjack.

Still a flaw. You shouldn't be able to remove the last "anything" if you can't build a new one already/have all the materials for a new one.

Pointless to restrict. Nothing stops the player from then using those materials unwisely.
So it's not a flaw, it's there I feel, for situations like this when you need materials and cannot make them yourself.

We been asking on Discord for us to be able to relocate work stations, but these suggestions have so far fallen on deaf ears.

You can relocate, destroy old build anew, in a different location. IF your work area has too be JUST RIGHT. Its up to you if its worth it or not.:steamsalty:

Just ended up here from Google also having destroyed my timber stockpile wanting to relocate it. The lumber salesman is only Tier 1, so he doesn't sell the wooden beams I need to construct a new one. Pretty bad design. And if you're going to talk about being unwise with materials - the game doesn't tell you whether you'll get 100% / some of the materials back from destroying something.

Y'all are doing this in the wrong order. Build the new one, THEN destroy the old one. If the locations overlap or some other weird edge case, have all the materials on hand to build the new one BEFORE you destroy the old one. "I can't get the materials to build my new one" isn't bad design or a bug in the game, it's just poor planning.

This lesson also applies outside of video games.

It's called learning the game. There's no hand holding here. It's not a game for children, which you should know from the grim, morbid atmosphere, however light heartedly it is delivered. It requires a thinking adult who understands not making impulse decisions until you understand the consequences for your actions. Unlike life, you get to exit to the menu and restart from your last save (sleep) or even exit the entire game (on PC) and revert up to two saves back by deleting the #.dat save and renaming either #.dat.backup.1 or #.dat.backup.2 to #.dat and restarting the game.

You can level him up easily enough by selling him a lot of firewood.
If you don't have a stockpile of those, or billets, just buy his own stuff, or use a prayer of commerce on him to level him up.
If you're not at that point in the game yet, you'll have to grind slowly to get coin to level him up.

Don't relocate right away.

Minor point, I don't think I have seen any explanation ever - whether in the game or on the wiki - about how to level up merchants. There are definitely merchants leveling up when I am not buying anything from them or selling anything to them (notably Koukol, who was Tier III the first time I talked to him)... so that can't be the only way it happens.

Came here from google. Luckily, I realised my issue before I slept so I simply kept a copy of the save game before I slept (to see if I could manufacture beams, as I would have the circular saw the next day). I could not. So I've lost two days, but I can go back and fix this. If you don't have a save then your options are as described above.. long, slow grind to get the vendor up to point he can sell you beams (IF you have enough firewood). If you don't, your game is over.

The design is undeniably is broken.
