If you're looking for an RP reason, it probably has to do with their continuous tending of their garden plot, immediately utilizing any waste as a mulch / fertilizer for the soil.

From an in-game rationale, aside from the upgrades, you aren't having to utilize any of your own fertilizer stocks, so them providing a gross-gain would likely just give you entirely too much...

From a super realism perspective ...I don't know. Maybe the zombies eat it? :gk_skull:
