Both work well enough, but the game was designed around a controller, so you will have the best experience that way.

I kind of play in a hybrid mode. I mostly use a controller, but for navigating License Boards, I prefer the arrow keys to the controller's D-pad, and for scrolling long menus (such as equipment/item lists), mouse's wheel is much faster than a controller. I also found the fishing minigame easiest to play with a keyboard.

pretty exclusively controller - sometimes the keyboard and mouse for the extra-menus.
The game was designed for PS2 and that is noticeable in everything. And the claimed mouse and keyboard-support is basically fraud - the only thing that is supported is mapping them the same as you would map a controller.
use the mouse in the menu? Nah. use a keybind for skills? Nah.

I think I might've found this out by myself since the game never tells you, but you can very quickly scroll through menus by holding down Y/triangle. It's the same logic they applied to dealing with stacks of items, but I don't think this is ever mentioned in the interface.

Looks like you'll learn something new about the Steam version even after playing it for over 200 hours. Thanks for the tip! I was occasionally wondering why the typical LB/RB or LT/RT scrolling didn't work in this game. Oh, and I noticed that the scrolling is even faster by holding Y (or the keyboard equivalent of the Menu button) and using mouse wheel.

Np! I think this might've been a feature in the original release, though. If not, it was on the international version for sure, which this is based off.

can the keys be remaped for movement to the arrow keys or is it only WASD?
